Getting access: Roles and Permissions

Default roles you may see

Each Application includes default roles: Owner, Contributor, Approver, Viewer, Data Steward. Roughly these provide the following permissions.

  • Owner: full access in the Application.

  • Contributor: can import and maintain data.

  • Approver: can approve/reject imports.

  • Viewer: read-only viewing of data.

  • Data Steward: manages Metamodels, Connections, Lookups, and can trigger Persist.

Common symptoms and what they mean

  • You cannot create an Application > only instance admins (SuperAdmins) can do this.

  • You can view but cannot edit Metamodels, Connections, or Import Templates > your role lacks Create/Update permissions for that section. Roles can be configured per section (Metamodel, Connection, Import Template, Import, Approval, Persist, Logs, Lookups, etc.).
  • You can’t approve → you likely need Approval permissions or the Approver role.

Who to contact

  • Need a new Application → instance admin (SuperAdmin).

  • Need more permissions → Application Owner, Data Steward, or someone with Role/User Management permissions in that Application.

Custom roles can be created and configured with granular permissions.
